Jets' safety Smith has sprained MCL

New York Jets safety Eric Smith could miss the remainder of the preseason after suffering a sprained MCL in his left knee in Friday night's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, according to the New York Daily News.

Smith had arthroscopic surgery on that knee during the off-season after he suffered a torn meniscus.

Smith has been working as the Jets' third safety behind Yeremiah Bell and Laron Landry and was playing in sub-packages. The Jets are hoping he will be back for the season opener Sept. 9 against the Buffalo Bills.
