The New York Jets have already made a splash this offseason, acquiring big-name veterans such as LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Cromartie and Jason Taylor.
And they may not be finished.
Per a report from Manish Mehta of the Newark Star-Ledger, the Jets are interested in free agent linebacker Adalius Thomas. Thomas was released by the New England Patriots on Monday.
Should the Jets make a move, Thomas would be reunited with head coach Rex Ryan, who was Thomas’ defensive coordinator in Baltimore when the outside linebacker played for the Ravens from 2000-2006. Under Ryan, Thomas appeared in two Pro Bowls (2003, 2006).
The 32-year-old Thomas recorded 14.5 sacks in 35 starts during his three-year stint with the Patriots—hardly the type of production New England was looking for after handing the outside linebacker a five-year, $35 million contract in 2007.
Should Thomas and the Jets find a way to get a deal done, an already fierce rivalry between New York and New England would be sure to get much more volatile.
