Where have we heard this before?

Per, ESPNNewYork, the New York Jets coaches are toying with the idea of using second-round pick Geno Smith as a change of pace quarterback in the offense should be not win the starting job over Mark Sanchez. By "change of pace," perhaps the Jets mean being a quarterback who doesn't turn the ball over with stupid mistakes. Sanchez personally accounted for 26 turnovers last year.

Of course, isn't this "change of pace" thing exactly why the Jets brought in Tim Tebow last year, and  we all saw how Tebow was never a factor at quarterback, but the mere mention that he might be used in certain situations seemed to make what was left of Sanchez's confidence wilt in 2012.

Here's a tip for the Jets coaches: If you want to have a quarterback competition, fine. But name your starter as soon as possible, whether it is Sanchez or Smith, and stick with that guy until he proves he can't do the job satisfactorily. Some would argue that Sanchez has already proven he can't do the job satisfactorily, but dangling Smith over his head as a situational QB is definitely not the answer.
