Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown reiterated that he won't attend the Cleveland Browns' upcoming Ring of Honor ceremony, making those intentions clear in a letter addressed to team president Mike Holmgren.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Brown acknowledged that he had no formal contract with the Browns in his former executive advisor role to owner Randy Lerner.

However, he stated his opinion that his agreement with Lerner had been broken because it included a clause that he was only to report to the reclusive owner.

Brown alleged that Holmgren offered to pay him $100,000, according to the former NFL star, act as a "a greeter ... a mascot ... a person that would represent special events by his physical presence. All of those things that you offered me would be controlled by you."

Brown said he watched a recent press conference where Holmgren announced the plans for the Ring of Honor and expressed hope that Brown would attend.

"Your most powerful statement about me was that, and I must laugh, one monkey don't stop the show," Brown wrote. I've never danced in the end zone, I always gave the ball to the referee, so you should know I don't dance. Also Mike, I don't hang out on the Westside of town. I'm an Eastside guy.

"I play my golf at Highland Golf Course. I don't have any trophies in my home on display. I don't claim to be the best at anything, and I emphatically do not need validation from any man, so I will not participate in your Ring of Honor."

The Browns have confirmed that Holmgren has received Brown's message.

It seems highly unlikely that they'll try to talk Brown into attending again.
