Newly-minted Arizona Cardinals linebacker Joey Porter isn't off to a good start with his new football team.

Porter was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence early today outside a Taco Bell in Bakersfield, Calif., according to the Associated Press.

According to TMZ, Porter was charged with assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest. All of the charges are misdemeanors.

Bakersfield is Porter's hometown.

Per the report, Porter wouldn't give his driver's license, rolled up his window when an officer asked him to get out of the car and slapped the officer's hand when he tried to unlock the door.

Per TMZ, Porter exited the car in "a confrontational manner" when the officer grabbed Porter's arm. Then, the officer said he took out his gun and ordered Porter to get on the ground, which he declined to do.

According to the AP, Porter wound up following officer's orders and placed his hands behind his back with him and his passenger both arrested.

Porter is an outspoken player who essentially talked his way off the Miami Dolphins' roster.

He recently signed a big contract with the Cardinals after being cut by the Dolphins. It's a three-year, $17.5 million deal.

The Cardinals haven't commented on the arrest yet.

UPDATE: The Cardinals issued the following statement: "The team is aware of the incident. We are in the process of gathering all of the facts concerning it and won't comment further until that's completed."

Hey Porter. A $17.5 million contract will pay for a lot of cabs and limos. But a $17.5 million contract won't buy you any brains. Dumb ass.

As a Fins fan, it pleases me to know, they got rid of this dude at the right time. At least Ronnie didn't resist, but now both can have some fun in the league's substance abuse program. I agree with Carlos, why not just take a cab, or hire a driver!!
