Colts defensive tackle to undergo treatment for alcohol issue Aaron Wilson
The Indianapolis Colts placed reserve defensive tackle John GIll on the non-football illness list, two league sources confirmed.
Colts team president Bill Polian indicated earlier this week that Gill, who was found in a ditch by police at 4 a.m. over the weekend on players' day off, will get treatment for alcoholism.
"He's got a problem clearly that unfortunately many Americans are familiar with, either in their family or the workplace," Polian told Indianapolis reporters. "So, the No. 1 priority for him is to get treatment and we're in that process right now.Football is not a priority. It's not even a consideration. He's going into treatment as quickly as possible.
"That’s being arranged with the appropriate people at the league level and we’ll move on from there. We hope obviously for John's sake and his family's sake that everything in the end will work out, but his focus now needs to be treatment and getting himself squared away."
Gill was arrested for public intoxication nearly one year removed from an alcohol-related incident last September.
The charges were dropped in both cases, a common outcome in Indiana for cases like this after spending the night in jail.
The former Northwestern player signed with the Colts last year.
