Josh McCown has at least one Buccaneers defender in his corner.
Apprearing on New York radio station WEPN-FM, linebacker Jonathan Casillas said he thinks McCown has earned the right to be the starting quarterback when the 2014 season opens up.
"… Don't take anything from Glennon; he's just only in his second year," Casillas told the radio station, via Joebucsfan.com. "But McCown looks like he's played a couple of years in this game. It's a strong comparison, but he reminds me of Drew [Brees], not just the way he throws the ball, but his approach to the game. The first one in, last one out. You know, he's always around. He's very [communicative], very personable. And you can tell he's a born leader."
Obviously, McCown isn't on Brees' level. But he is coming off a spectacular season that saw him throw for 1,829 yards, 13 touchdowns and only one interception in relief duty for Jay Cutler when he was down with injuries.
McCown is still expected to start, though Glennon has reportedly had a solid offseason. But it still appears to be an uphill battle for the former N.C. State standout.
