Maurice Jones-Drew is expected to get his first preseason carries Saturday night when the Jacksonville Jaguars face the New York Jets, per the Associated Press.

To date, Jones-Drew's most extensive action of preseason was escorting an angry Justin Blackmon to the locker room after he got into an argument with Miami's Nolan Carroll last week.

But now, MJD appears ready to get his first work since last October against the Oakland Raiders  when he suffered a foot injury that cost him most of the 2012 season.

"I understand I haven't played in a while," Jones-Drew said. "Things have been going better than we thought. This is the right time to kind of take that next step. That's all it is. I don't think it's more than that. I don't think someone's walking on water or someone cured cancer. Trust me. It's just exciting to get out there and finally get some live reps and play with some guys and see what it's like."
