It was not a good day for the Ravens.
During Sunday's joint practice with the 49ers, two players sustained injuries — one of them being the serious variety.
Following practice, coach John Harbaugh told reporters that second-year defensive lineman Kapron Lewis-Moore sustained a left Achilles tear and will miss the 2014 season. This is a huge blow for Lewis-Moore, who missed his rookie season a year ago due to an ACL tear he suffered while playing for Notre Dame in the 2013 BCS Championship against Alabama.
Lewis-Moore had to be carted off of the field. He'd been having a great training camp and figured to factor into the defensive line's rotation. He's the second Ravens defensive lineman to lose his season, with rookie Brent Urban tearing his ACL earlier this preseason.
Prior to Lewis-Moore's injury, cornerback Asa Jackson hurt his ankle and had to be helped off of the field. Harbaugh said that Jackson's injury doesn't appear to be a long-term ordeal.
Jackson had a solid showing against the 49ers in Thursday's preseason game, highlighted by an interception against backup quaterback Blaine Gabbert. Jackson appears to be in the lead for the third cornerback spot on the Ravens' depth chart.
