Ken Whisenhunt did about the only thing he could do after the Seattle Seahawks ran roughshod over his team 58-0 on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals coach stepped to the podium and apologized for the effort but his team, a brutally awful performance that included eight turnovers.

Let me start by saying I apologize to our fans and everybody associated with our organization,” Whisenhunt said, according to the team’s Web site. “That was embarrassing today. We owe it to our fans, our supporters, to give them a better product.”

The Seahawks rushed for 284 yards in sending Arizona to its ninth consecutive loss. The Cardinals started the season 4-0 but that fast beginning only masked what were real offensive issues for the team. Speculation now is the Bidwill family will do something it hasn’t done often – spend a lot of money to fire the head coach. It’s worth wondering if there will be a housecleaning in the front office as well.

“We all know this business,” Whisenhunt said. “I’ve been in it a long time as a player and a coach. I’m not worried about that.”
