The Detroit Lions quickly signed David Akers in a bid to replace Jason Hanson and now they’ve added an Internet sensation to the mix.
Havard Rugland of Norway has been signed by the Lions to compete for the kicking job a month after the team put him through a workout. He’s also known as Kickalicious from his YouTube video that has more than 2.9 million views. If you want to get a kick out of one story today, check out the video.
Akers, 38, would figure to be the favorite to win the job but if Rugland can perform under pressure and in a game the way he performs in his video, it ought to be one good competition. Akers struggled last season with the San Francisco 49ers.
Rugland, 6-2, 240 pounds, has spent time in California working with former NFL kicker Michael Husted. Now, he’s got a chance to show what he can do.
