Following a home loss to Washington State in which some Trojan fans booed the team off of the field after repeated chants of "Fire Kiffin!" could be heard throughout the Coliseum, head coach Lane Kiffin named Cody Kessler the starting quarterback for the contest against Boston College.

The school announced the decision on Twitter Monday afternoon after both Kessler and Max Wittek struggled to move the football in a 10-7 loss to Washington State.

Kessler started the season's first two contests against Hawaii and Washington State before giving way to Wittek. On the season, Kessler is 18 of 32 passing for 136 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, while Wittek is 8 of 18 through the air for 90 yards with a pick. Both signal-callers have struggled despite having All-American Marqise Lee and emerging star Nelson Agholor at wide receiver. Against the Cougars, the Trojans' longest pass play went for eight yards. The team's 54 passing yards against Wazzu were its fewest in a game since 1998.

With the inability of Kiffin to field a competent offense in Los Angeles, rumors continue to swirl about his job status. The Trojans have received very strong defensive play, but the team has been hampered by Kiffin's overly cautious and vanilla play-calling.
