With starting center J.D. Walton undergoing surgery on his ankle earlier this week and now expected to miss the entire 2013 season as a result, the Denver Broncos turned to a familiar name to help fill the void.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Broncos and free agent center Dan Koppen have reached an agreement on a one-year deal that will see the 10-year veteran return to the city where he started 12 games last season.
Koppen—a fifth-round selection out of Boston College in 2003—joined the Broncos last season after Walton broke his ankle against the Raiders in Week 4. The veteran center, who cut his teeth working with Tom Brady from 2003-2011, surrendered just one sack in 15 appearances during the 2012 season.
