Dan Koppen is trying to make his way back from a broken ankle that cost him most of last season.

But as he makes his return, Koppen is finding that his starting job, and perhaps his very roster spot, may be hanging in the balance in this camp with the New England Patriots.

“You are fighting every year,” Koppen told the Boston Herald. “Guys are coming in and guys are doing well. Everybody deserves a chance on this team, so everybody is competing every day.”

Ryan Wendell and Nick McDonald capably filled the rolle after Koppen went on injured reserve following the season opener, but Koppen says he will fight as he always has, even if there is more on the line in this training camp than in previous years.

I didn’t come in with any feeling,” Koppen said. “I just came in to try to earn a spot on this team and do whatever I can to help it.”
