With the Washington Redskins taking turns in the AARP backfield, Larry Johnson will get the start Saturday when the team plays the Baltimore Ravens in its second preseason game.

Johnson did not see the field Friday night when the Redskins had a relatively impressive preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills at FedEx Field. Clinton Portis got the start and carried the ball six times for 22 yards.

“(Johnson) will get a chance to showcase himself this week,” coach Mike Shanahan said. “He has gotten a lot of reps, and what a guy doesn’t want to do is play one series or two series and not showcase himself.”

The team’s third veteran running back – Willie Parker – also sat out against the Bills. The team’s Web site reports he could get a start himself later in preseason. Backing Portis on Friday night was Ryan Torain and Keiland Willianms. Torain could have a real shot at making the roster.

In the meantime, the Redskins are still being linked to free agent Brian Westbrook. We’ll see where that goes. If he signs, he’ll have to get in line for preseason touches.
