Former San Diego Chargers quarterback bust Ryan Leaf could be heading to prison because of drug and burglary charges he faces in Texas.

James Farren, the district attorney assigned to the case, told the San Diego Union-Tribune that there's a 50-50 chance Leaf's pending plea bargain will include jail time.

Per the report, Leaf's prison time will depend on what the West Texas A&M athletes, whom the former NFL quarterback allegedly stole prescription pain medication from, have to say and how much he's able to afford to pay in fines.

“Some of the victims are not that enthusiastic about him going to prison,” Farren said of Leaf, whose alleged crimes occurred when he was an assistant coach at the Texas college. “We try to at least give the victim a voice in these things. They’re young college players, and they have still have some rapport with the guy. They feel bad about the possibility of him going to prison.”

Farred added, though, that some other victims aren't sympathetic to Leaf's situation.

“They’re young college players,” Farren said. “They looked up to him even though I’m sure they feel a bit betrayed.”

Leaf, 33, could face up to 20 years for the burglary charge.
