Leigh Bodden gambled on himself and won

When veteran cornerback Leigh Bodden became an unrestricted free agent last year after being cut by the Detroi Lions, he opted for a one-year deal for the veteran minimum with the New England Patriots.

It was something of a surprise. Why not get more long-term security when he had the opportunity to do so?

Bodden explained his decision to the Boston Globe. Bottom line: He wanted to gamble on himself and prove his worth rather than take the easy way out.

And Bodden accomplished his goal by intercepting five passes, recording 55 tackles and 18 pass deflections.

And it paid dividends after he turned down an offer from the Houston Texans during a free agent visit to return to New England with a four-year, $22.5 million contract.

“I’ve been taking a gamble on myself for a long time now, and I just believe in myself, no matter who believes in me,’’ Bodden said. "Everybody talked about, ‘What if you get hurt?’ I don’t worry about that. I just try to go out there and perform the way I perform and let everything else play out.’’ ..

“It feels good that the team wanted me and felt like I was part of the team, and that’s pretty much what I strive for. It’s not about the money, but the commitment of the team wanting me to be here. So that was really good to see that the Patriots stepped up and wanted me to be here.’’

Bodden is a good example of what a player can do when they believe in themselves and have the game to back up a bold move.

This reminds me of when Orlando Pace went out and got the Texans to court him a few years ago. He got the contract and just needed to sign it and then turned around to the Rams and said, "See I can get better money. Don't you still want me?", and the Rams gave in. It's all business baby.

Shame since the Texans can't get in the playoffs players keep leaving them at the altar.

He made the most of this cap-free window. It's worth a Bechta story!

I couldn’t help but notice: NFL DB LEIGH EDMONns BoDDen was born on SEP. 24, 1981. The date was the 19th birthday of actress Antonia EUGENia “nIA” vARdALos, best known for her PALINdrome 2002 film, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. Adding RA to LEIGH makes the North Carolina capitAL, RALEIGH, named for Sir WALTER. Middle name EDMONns begins like EDMONds and could evoke S.R. 1116

Sterling sliver jewelry, particularly bracelets, is a staple of fashionable women everywhere. This type of pandora beads is durable yet so beautiful. The versatility is outstanding; it goes with every outfit whether with jeans or with a designer gown. For instance, movie star Sandra Bullock wore a silver cuff bracelet to the 2009 MTV Movie Awards in May 2009. A silver cuff bracelet makes an audacious statement, yet it is lightweight and is flexible so that it can fit a variety of wrist sizes. Another popular type of bracelets is the silver charm bracelet. There are many shapes and designs for the charms that are attached to the bracelet.
