The Detroit Lions have fired coach Jim Schwartz.
Schwartz was dismissed after the Lions were unable to capitalize on a prime opportunity to win the NFC North title after injuries to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.
The Lions failed to make the playoffs and seemed to lack discipline as a team.
They never reached their full potential despite the presence of talented players, including wide receiver Calvin Johnson and quarterback Matthew Stafford and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.
