Louisville added a potentially key piece to its defensive line of the future when it received a commitment from tackle Poona Ford on Tuesday.

The 6-foot, 285-pound Class of 2014 product from Hilton Head High School (Hilton Head, S.C.) gave a verbal pledge to the Cardinals, choosing them over offers from major schools such as South Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio State and Oklahoma State.

Ford, who is the Cardinals' 24th commit for the current recruiting cycle, is a bit undersized but has good agility for the position. He reportedly has clocked a 4.85-second 40-yard dash.

The three-star recruit is one of the better defensive tackles in the 2014 class and is arguably the program's best of the 24 verbal pledges in this cycle. He is the Cardinals' first commitment from a defensive tackle, which is a position of need for Charlie Strong and his staff. Ford is also the Cards’ third commitment from the state of South Carolina, joining wide receiver T.J. Foster and defensive back Zykiesis Cannon.
