Either Jimmy Johnson has the goods on what is happening in Chicago with the Bears or he got some bad information.
The Fox analyst and former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins tweeted early this morning that Marc Trestman would be hired as the next coach of the Bears. That’s curious, at the minimum, as general manager Phil Emery has at least three interviews remaining this weekend in the first round of the process.
“Looks like 2 of my guys getting NFL jobs..Chud Cleveland and my QB coach at U Trestman to Chicago,” Johnson wrote on Twitter.
Trestman was a quarterbacks coach under Johnson at the University of Miami before Johnson jumped to the NFL. The Bears have declined to comment on the situation. A team spokesman said when the process began that the team would not comment while the search was ongoing and the spokesman said the club would maintain that approach.
Texans offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians are scheduled to interview this weekend. Emery interviewed Packers offensive coordinator Tom Clements on Thursday night in Green Bay.
Trestman, who was won two Grey Cups as the head coach of the Montreal Alouettes, has already met with Emery.
