Marcus Lattimore returned to practice

Marcus Lattimore sat out his rookie season with the 49ers so that his torn ACL could properly heal.

Now, he's ready to go out and compete for a spot on this year's 53-man roster. Lattimore participated in San Francisco's rookie minicamp, with the organization tweeting out a Vine video of him participating in a receiving drill.

It was long expected that Lattimore would be able to compete for a backup job behind Frank Gore for the 2014 season. Then the 49ers drafted Carlos Hyde in the second round, causing some concern for the former South Carolina standout.

Lattimore has torn ACLs twice and has an injury history. But when he was at his best with the Gamecocks, he was one of the most feared running backs in the SEC. If he can stay healthy and return to his college form, he'll be tough to keep off the roster after training camp.
