Olindo Mare, who was close to automatic last season for the Seattle Seahawks, has signed his franchise tag tender, according to Adam Caplan of Scout.com.

By putting his name to paper, he guarantees his contract for the season at $2.814 million, and thus obligates himself to show up for the portions of the offseason program that are mandatory. With a new coach, the Seahawks will be able to conduct two minicamps, only one of which is mandatory. Sometimes, players with the franchise tag will wait to sign in order to skip as much work as possible while angling for a longterm deal or otherwise displaying their frustration with their current situation.

Mare made 24-of-28 field goals last season and missed on only one try from inside 40 yards.

That’s a good step for Arizona, which has been seeing players leave in groups. Offensive lineman Rex Hadnot and quarterback Charlie Whitehurst are visiting today, and Joey Porter is reportedly scheduled to stop by later this week.
