Mark Sanchez fails to make convincing argument

At least judging by his performance, New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez failed to make a convincing argument that he should own the starting job.

Although he had a prime opportunity with rookie Geno Smith sidelined with a sprained ankle during a 37-13 Jets win, Sanchez completed only 13 of 23 passes for 139 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

So, the Jets won't be naming a starter at this time.

"We're not willing to name a starting quarterback right now," Jets coach Rex Ryan told reporters. "Will we name one before the Giant game? I don't know. Right now, we're not comfortable making that decision."

Sanchez was intercepted by Marcus Trufant on a throw he forced to tight end Kellen Winslow.

"It was a tight lane," Sanchez said. "I should have put it out in front of Kellen a little more and gave him a better chance to make a better play."

It's wide open between Sanchez and Smith, as long as the second-round draft pick gets back on the field and plays well
