With rookie Geno Smith hobbling with an ankle injury and coming off a four-interception practice characterized as "brutal" by coach Rex Ryan, Mark Sanchez will start Saturday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jets announced the start this morning.
Sanchez started against the Detroit Lions a week ago.
Unless Smith gets healthy and overtakes Sanchez soon, Sanchez could begin the season as the starter.
Sanchez is listed as the starter on the depth chart currently.
Smith is expected to eventually overtake Sanchez, the embattled starter, but it hasn't happened yet.
