Max Hall will be No. 2 quarterback in Arizona
The Arizona Cardinals have high hopes for Max Hall and John Skelton.
So high that they will use the untested rookies as the backups for starter Derek Anderson after releasing former first-round draft pick Matt Leinart today.
It doesn’t come as a surprise. Leinart wasn’t going to be happy behind Anderson, and the coaching staff had clearly lost all faith in Leinart to do the job.
The 10th overall pick of the 2006 draft collected $17.6 million already from the Cardinals</a>, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republuc. His salary – he was due to earn $2.485 million this season – made it impossible for the Cardinals to trade Leinart over the last week.
Hall, who will be No. 2 behind Anderson, and Skelton are intriguing prospects. Arizona has to hope one of them develops quickly because Anderson isn’t considered by many to be a longterm solution. He may start for all of 2010 but the bet here is the Cardinals will he hoping for an upgrade as early as next season.
