The Maxwell Football Club announced its Watch List today for the 2011 Maxwell Award, an honor bestowed upon America's most outstanding college football player. The award has been given out since 1937 and is named in honor of sportswriter Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell.

Sixty-six players comprise the preseason list this year. The 2010 winner was Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, who was selected No. 1 overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2011 NFL Draft after winning the Heisman Trophy.

This year's candidates were chosen by the Maxwell Football Club's selection committee, evaluating past performance and future potential. Semifinalists for the award will be announced October 31 and the three finalists for the award will be unveiled November 21. The winner of the 2011 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show held on December 8.
