Reports surfaced on Monday from the NFL Network that there was mutual interest between the Dallas Cowboys and free-agent right tackle Eric Winston.
Not so fast.
While the report indicated talks were “heating up” between the two sides, David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports the Cowboys are “not in negotiations with Winston and have no plans to pursue him at this time.”
Moore says the same applies to Tyson Clabo, another name free agent who would likely give Dallas an upgrade on the right side of its line.
There has been tremendous speculation about the future of Doug Free, who struggled last season. It cannot be ruled out that he will be a post-June 1 cut to free up considerable cap space for the Cowboys. But the Moore indicates the team would prefer to address needs on the line via the draft.
We’ll see which direction this one heads.
