The New England Patriots moved Devin McCourty from cornerback to safety partially out of need.

But now that the team has acquired Aqib Talib to play cornerback (he returned an Andrew Luck interception for a TD Sunday), the Patriots believe they have solidified their secondary. Talib will play at cornerback and McCourty will become a safety permanently, eventually being paired there with Patrick Chung, according to the Boston Globe.

The secondary has been a problem at times for the Patriots the past couple of seasons, but the team seems to feel the addition of Talib and the move of McCourty helps to plug the leaks in that unit.
