Could Redskins be taking wait-and-see approach? Brad Biggs
With the regular season kicking off next Thursday, the clock is ticking in Washington on a contract extension for Donovan McNabb, the quarterback the Redskins added in a much publicized and rare divisional trade.
It will be a one-year rental if the club can’t reach a new deal with McNabb, but his agent Fletcher Smith tells Jason Reid of the Washington Post that should not be a worry.
“It is our desire to get a deal done in Washington,” Smith told Reid. “That hasn't changed. Donovan made it clear, I think, that he likes it there and would like to end his career there.”
McNabb has been sidelined with an ankle injury and there has been some concern that he has been slow to adapt to the new offensive system under Mike Shanahan. Smith doesn’t believe there is a situation in place where the Redskins are now taking a wait-and-see approach with the quarterback who can be an unrestricted free agent. If the Redskins wait to see too much, McNabb could simply bolt after the season.
But while not addressing any specifics, Smith didn’t seem concerned.
“I don't feel any differently,” Smith told Reid about the prospects of a longterm contract being written.

You have to wonder why they traded for him if they didn't want to do a deal. Unless...someone told Snyder that Manning and Brady woudl be FAs next year.

I believe McNabb has 3 very good years left in him and IMO the Redskins would be wise to ensure he plays them in Washington.
The Great Redskin fans deserve good play at the QB position.
