Meyer finally speaks on Hernandez situation
Urban Meyer, who was Aaron Hernandez's college coach at the University of Florida, finally broke his silence on his former star tight end's current troubles where he faces first-degree murder charges.
“Prayers and thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim,” Meyer texted to the Columbus Post Dispatch. “Relating or blaming these serious charges to the UniversityofFlorida, myself or our staff is wrong and irresponsible.”
Meyer is right in regards to Hernandez made his own current mess (allegedly) in regards to the trouble he now faces. But with so many reports and issues now coming out about Hernandez's problems while at U of F (from a fight that Tim Tebow supposedly broke up to reports of a 2007 shooting incident), if the coaching staff and administration there worked to cover any of those things up or avoid the needed discipline in the matter, then they can't completely wash their hands of Hernandez.
Meyer, now head coach at Ohio State, went on to say that the reports of multiple failed drug tests were inaccurate - something that NFP reported last week was one of the very reasons some teams had lowered or removed Hernandez from their draft boards altogether.
“I just received an email from a friend where there is an accusation of multiple failed drug tests by Hernandez covered up byUniversityofFloridaor the coaching staff. This is absolutely not true,” Meyer texted. “Hernandez was held to the same drug testing policy as every other player.”
