In most situations, a professional athlete would be thrilled to post career numbers in the same season in which his contract was set to expire. It shows the rest of the sport what you’re capable of producing while simultaneously driving up both the interest and price for your services.

Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case for free agent defensive end Michael Bennett. Having made just 12 starts during his first three NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bennett busted loose in a 16-start campaign last year that included career-highs in tackles (41) and sacks (9.0).

But all of that led to little interest on the open market during the first two days of free agency.

The upside for Bennett is that a team has finally started sniffing. Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Bennett will visit the Miami Dolphins on Thursday.

There’s still a chance the 27-year-old could end up back in Tampa Bay, but at least he now has another suitor he can pit against the Buccaneers in an effort to drive up the price.
