During the Andy Reid era, the Philadelphia Eagles have not exactly been known for their commitment to the running game.
The team ran the ball only 39.4% of the time in 2009 (28th in NFL) and ranked 26th in the league in third/fourth and one conversions (20/33, 60.6%).
Those numbers—and the fact that veteran RB Brian Westbrook is no longer with the team—could be the reason the Eagles have decided to bring in restricted free agent running back Mike Bell for a visit on Tuesday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.
Bell was given the right of first refusal tender by the New Orleans Saints, meaning they would have seven days to match any offer made to the 26-year-old running back.
However, should the Saints decline to match an offer sheet, they would lose Bell and receive no compensation.
The four-year veteran out of Arizona rushed for 654 yards and five touchdowns with the Saints in 2009. At 6’0”, 225-pounds, Bell would be a physical, between-the-tackles presence on the Philadelphia offense.
