Mike Peterson is out of contract with the Atlanta Falcons but he’s sure hoping to return for another season with the club.
The starter this past season on the weak side, Peterson has been participating in player-led offseason workouts. In fact, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Peterson has led some of the defensive drills.
He’s fully invested at this point because Peterson wants to return for a third season with the defending NFC South champions.
“It’s a little rough being in limbo and not knowing,” Peterson said of his future. “But they’ve expressed that they want me back or whatever. I’m just taking the approach that this is where I want to be. This is exactly where I hope to be. That’s the approach that I’ve been taking this whole offseason.
“It’s a little awkward feeling. But this is the place that I want to be. I want to be here and I’ve heard they want me here. I have a feeling that they want me back in whatever role that maybe. That’s the approach that I’m taking.”
Peterson said the players are trying to be cautious to ensure no one is injured while still getting productive work done.
“We are trying to be a little bit careful,” he said. “But there is going to be structure. We are not just going to be out there running around and throwing the football around. I think we have enough veteran guys to keep the structure and get some work in at the same time.”
