The Browns are at least temporarily sticking to the initial script.

On Thursday, Browns coach Mike Pettine told reporters that Brian Hoyer would open camp as the team's starting quarterback. That's been the story all offseason.

But Pettine has now left some room for Johnny Manziel to come in an take the job. Via the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot, Hoyer's hold on the No. 1 job isn't strong enough for him to be the sure-fire starter when Week 1 rolls around.

"I don't think it's insurmountable," Pettine said.

It seems everyone outside of the Browns organization is expecting Manziel to start when the season opens. And perhaps the Browns are thinking that too. If so, they probably want to keep Manziel in the dark as long as possible to make sure he puts in the work to prove they're not making a mistake by counting on a rookie so early.
