Mike Tice is out of the running for the Oakland Raiders’ head-coaching position.

Tice was supposed to interview for the job on Tuesday in Mobile, Ala., at the Senior Bowl, but the Raiders have moved on to a second round of interviews before meeting with the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears.

The Raiders requested permission last week from the Bears to meet with Tice, who was promoted from offensive line coach to coordinator in Chicago on Jan. 6. Instead, the Raiders are now focusing on Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen and perhaps one or two more candidates.

The move certainly helps the Bears who, had they lost Tice, would have been forced to mount a late search for a coordinator on Lovie Smith’s staff. Now, the Bears can keep the focus on finding a passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach and an offensive line coach.
