Monachino could interest Eagles as defensive coordinator

The Philadelphia Eagles are not announcing Chip Kelly’s coaching staff until it has been completed and that’s a task that isn’t done yet.

It’s been widely reported that Pat Shurmur has been hired as offensive coordinator but the Eagles have yet to make a move on a defensive coordinator, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. That has raised speculation that Kelly and the Eagles are waiting on an assistant coach employed by one of the two Super Bowl teams – the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers.

Per the report, the hot name now is Ravens linebackers coach Ted Monachino, who of course would be off limits until after the game is played Sunday. There has also been speculation that 49ers defensive backs coach Ed Donatell could interest the Eagles. Previously, he has been a defensive line coach and he’s gotting rave reviews from Terrell Suggs.

49ers defensive line coach Jim Tomsula could also appeal to Kelly. Keep one thing in mind: the Ravens and 49ers could block any coach on their staff from leaving for a coordinator job.
