Munchak: It's time for Locker to start

One of the major factors in the Tennessee Titans choosing Jake Locker as their starting quarterback on Monday was not the youngster's success this camp, but how he dealt with his failures.

“He had some bad days, but he came back quickly from them. When things didn't go his way, he handled it well, which was good to watch,” Munchak said via TitanInsider.com.

Munchak indicated he was impressed with how Locker handled a sluggish performance in his first preseason start at Tampa Bay, going 4 for 11 with an interception. Locker said he knew that would be a factor.

“He (Munchak) had mentioned that that was something he wanted to see out of me, especially being a younger player, how I responded to negative plays, how I responded to having a bad day out here,” Locker said.

Locker has the support of Matt Hasselbeck, whom he beat out for the position.

“I've been in his shoes. It's an exciting thing for him. I had the chance to help lead a franchise and help build a program, and I had a chance to be the guy under center, and he's got that chance right now,” Hasselbeck said. “As hard as it was, Munch made his decision, and as hard as it was for me to hear that, I'm also excited for Jake. I'll help and support him any way I can, and I'll be happy to do it."
