Eagles soar into the top five after division win over Giants. National Football Post
Every week, the National Football Post brings you our weekly Power Rankings: a breakdown of how we stack up the league.
Week 15 (previous rankings included)
APBrees and the Saints have a date with the Cowboys on Saturday night.
1. (1) New Orleans Saints: 13-0
The Saints continue to win close games and can lock up home-field advantage in the NFC with a win over Dallas this Saturday night.
2. (2) Indianapolis Colts: 13-0
With the lead shrinking on Sunday, Peyton Manning took the Colts on an 80-yard drive to seal another victory.
3. (3) San Diego Chargers: 10-3
If it wasn’t for Brees and Manning, Philip Rivers would be the NFL’s MVP for a San Diego team that has won eight in a row.
4. (6) Minnesota Vikings: 11-2
Are the Vikings that much better than the Bengals? It sure looked that way up in Minneapolis on Sunday.
5. (7) Philadelphia Eagles: 9-4
Is there a defensive back in the NFC who can cover DeSean Jackson down the field? Sure doesn’t look like it.
6. (10) Green Bay Packers: 9-4
Another INT for Charles Woodson, who is leading this team and running away with the DPOY award.
7. (5) Cincinnati Bengals: 9-4
Carson Palmer says that his elbow is OK. Should we believe him after that performance on Sunday?
8. (4) Arizona Cardinals: 8-5
What was that last night in San Fran? Seven turnovers for a team that forgot to show up to the stadium.
APThe Pats proved they could win without getting a big day from Randy Moss.
9. (9) New England Patriots: 8-5
At this point in the season, the Pats will take wins anyway they can get them—especially with the Dolphins and the Jets on their heels.
10. (12) Baltimore Ravens: 7-6
The Ravens’ offensive production on Sunday reminded us of September. Does it continue against Chicago?
11. (8) Dallas Cowboys: 8-5
December has officially arrived in Dallas, and we are still wondering about the fourth- down call on the goal line.
12. (11) Denver Broncos: 8-5
Brandon Marshall was unstoppable in Indy, but it takes more than that to beat the Colts at home.
13. (14) Miami Dolphins: 7-6
The NFL’s most physical team will be dancing in January if they can win out.
14. (12) NY Giants: 7-6
It will be hard for the Giants to make a wild-card run when they can’t defend the deep ball.
15. (18) Tennessee Titans: 6-7
Vince Young’s hamstring is a concern, but the production of Chris Johnson is not. Does he have an outside chance at the MVP award?
16. (17) NY Jets: 7-6
The running game and Rex Ryan’s defense have the Jets back in the hunt and playing tough football at the right time of the year.
17. (15) Jacksonville Jaguars: 7-6
The Jags’ playoff hopes ride on the shoulder of QB David Garrard. Not a good thing.
18. (16) Pittsburgh Steelers: 6-7
Say goodbye to the defending champs after that performance on Thursday night in Cleveland.
APFrank Gore and the Niners took care of the Cards rather easily on Monday night.
19. (22) San Francisco 49ers: 6-7
The Niners pounded the Cards last night, and for the second time this season looked like the tougher team up front.
20. (21) Houston Texans: 6-7
Gary Kubiak might have to win out to keep his job in Houston next year—and having Andre Johnson will help.
21. (19) Atlanta Falcons: 6-7
A year of “what if’s” for the Falcons after Matt Ryan went down.
22. (20) Carolina Panthers: 5-8
The Panthers were able to shut down Randy Moss—but still went home with a loss on Sunday.
23. (24) Washington Redskins: 4-9
The Redskins can compete with anyone right now, which isn’t good for the Giants and the Cowboys, who are up next on the schedule.
24. (23) Chicago Bears: 5-8
Jay Cutler has now thrown 22 INTs this season. Can he get to 30 in the next three weeks?
25. (24) Oakland Raiders: 4-9
Losing QB Bruce Gradkowski will hurt this team’s development down the stretch—especially if JaMarcus Russell is given the ball again.
APIt wasn't pretty, but Ryan Fitzpatrick delivered a win for the Bills over the Chiefs.
26. (27) Buffalo Bills: 5-8
The Bills won despite Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing for only 86 yards, but you can do that against the Chiefs.
27. (27) Seattle Seahawks: 5-8
If Mike Holmgren lands in Seattle, his first priority is to find a secondary that can run after the Texans torched them.
28. (32) Cleveland Browns: 2-11
How about the Browns? One of the better defensive game plans we have seen this season from Rob Ryan against Pittsburgh.
29. (28) Kansas City Chiefs: 3-10
The Matt Cassel deal is starting to look really questionable right now in Kansas City.
30. (29) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 1-12
Remember the big free-agent signings of Derrick Ward and Kellen Winslow? Maybe next year in Tampa.
31. (30) Detroit Lions: 2-11
How bad was that loss in Baltimore? Really bad considering the Lions lost RB Kevin Smith to a knee injury.
32. (31) St. Louis Rams: 1-12
Steven Jackson continues to be the only highlight for a team that cannot compete with the rest of the league.

So Jack, are you saying the packers arent a 9-4 team? The only team you can make a case for them being behind is cincy since cincy beat them at the beginning of the year. Cincy however hasn't played well lately.
Who would you put ahead of them?
Nice to see the Packers have finally passed the Cowboys. Weeks overdue, but at least it was finally done.
I would easily put Denver, Baltimore and New England above the Cards. And Cincy shouldn't be that high either not after how they have been playing the past month. I know they swept Baltimore but Cincy's play has really taken a downturn since.
Packers I would actually switch with Philly. That Dom Caper defense would destroy McNabb, though that Philly defense would do pretty well against that Green Bay offensive line... I would still take a big play by Woodson for the Pack win.
New England is terrible right now.
Arizona looked like the best team in the NFL last week against Minny, and then looked horrible last night.
How is the Jamarcus Russell experiment doing ?
Who would you put ahead of them?
Packers D is playing top five football, and if their run game continues this recent pace it would take all the heat off Rodgers. Away games may be a different item, but elements of their recent improvement enable road playoff wins.
You can pick at any of the top ten teams. Indianapolis has eked out ugly wins over mediocre teams. Minnesota hasn't played a decent team and won except for the Packers and Bengals. The Saints barely won against a Falcons team that was without key players. There isn't a team that isn't susceptible to criticism.
There must be some way to disassociate Steven Jackson from the Rams. I put Jackson at 18 by himself, drop every team from 18 down one slot, and move the Rams to a collegiate mid-major conference. I am nothing but impressed by Jackson. Every D coordinator knows the Rams' offense is a one man show, and that one man, Jackson, puts on a show every week. Had I been Ted Thompson before the trade deadline, I would have offered Aaron Kampman, Ryan Grant and a first rounder for Jackson.
Who would I put ahead of the Pack and the cards? The 3 to 4 teams below them. How is that not clear?
Power rankings are not playoff standings with records and tiebreakers determining order. On a neutral field, who would you pick to win? Thats what power rankings are supposed to reflect. I would pick the Packers to lose against the Bengals, Pats or Ravens on a neutral field any day. Its an opinion list. Thats my opinion. everyone's got their own. Thats what makes power rankings fun.
I'd also definitely put the Eagles over the Vikings.

Packers and Cards are both 3-4 spots too high, in my opinion.
