Three players from next week’s Super Bowl are on the roster. Joe Fortenbaugh
Sunday night isn’t just about celebrating the best (or second best, or third best, or even fourth best) players in the NFL, it’s also about honoring the best of the past decade.
The NFL announced the All-Decade team Sunday night. The teams were chosen by the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee members.
Darren Sharper (Saints), Peyton Manning (Colts) and Dwight Freeney (Colts) will represent the All-Decade Team in next week's Super Bowl.
Let the debate begin.

The Linc,
There is no 1st or 2nd team. These are the players that were elected and that's apparantly that.
Good question, as I spent 10 minutes asking myself the same thing prior to writing that.
Joe
I think Brian Westbrook was overlooked here... his rushing yards might not compare, but his yards from scrimmage do.
Three Bears and no Rex Grossman?
How can London Fletcher get overlooked? Didnt miss a game all decade, the leader in tackles among mlb's and a complete team player.
Ryan Longwell should be on this list over David Akers. Better field goal percentage, more points. Any Packer or Vikings fan know that hes basically automatic within 40 yards. Akers only got it because he plays in a bigger market.
Strange that they're not broken down into 1st and 2nd team. Isn't that really where all the debate lies? Manning vs Brady, Strahan vs Freeney, etc.
I was looking at previous All-Decade teams on Wikipedia and they were in fact broken down into 1st and 2nd team.
I think Corey Dillon and Fred Taylor were better than Shaun Alexander...... nad please tell me that Andre Johnson came in 5th at WR.
Was there a minimum number of years required for eligibility? Shaun Alexander's numbers, other than TDs, is not close to Tiki Barber's stats for the past decade (subtract 3 years of Barber's play from the 1990s--SA was a rookie in 2000). TB played 7 and SA 8 years in the past decade. Barber played in 13 less games, yet rushed for 61 more yards on 220 LESS attempts, for a per carry average of 4.8 vs. 4.3. Pass catches? Not even close--35.7 catches per game vs. 12.4 per game. Barber's numbers from the past decade alone are worthy of Hall of Fame consideration. When you consider that his career yards per rushing attempt is 5.1 (joining OJ, Jim Brown and Barry Sanders as only backs in history to do so), it is laughable that Alexander gets the "decade" nod.
Missed out on Keith Bulluck here. Was on some bad Titans teams but put together an amazing decade. D Ware is a great pass rusher in the 3-4, but only really had 1 maybe 2 spectacular seasons (20 and 14 sacks). Its a shame analysts get caught up in sack numbers for specialists and overlook some of the truly great players.
I think Brian Westbrook was overlooked here... his rushing yards might not compare, but his yards from scrimmage do.
The Colts deactivated kicker Adam Vinatieri, wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez, cornerback Jarraud Powers, running back Donald Brown, safety Aaron Francisco, tight end Tom Santi as well as Michael Toudouze and Ervin Baldwin.
it’s also about honoring the best of the past decade.

Good for Schaub, but it was incredibly disappointing to watch Vince Young set passing back 20 years.

Who is 1st team and 2nd team? Or did that not specify that?
