Tennessee Titans safety Michael Griffin’s appeal was denied as an arbitrator upheld his one-game suspension for illegal hits.

Griffin was penalized unnecessary roughness against the Oakland Raiders after hitting tight end Mychal Rivera in the head-neck area. It was his second penalty of the season for an illegal hit, his fourth since 2011.

The suspension without pay will cost Griffin $205,882 out of his $3.5 million base salary.

The Titans signed kick returner Leon Washington, who was recently cut by the New England Patriots.

The Titans cut returner Devon Wylie and center Kevin Matthews.
