Voters in Colorado and Washington past initiatives that legalize the use of marijuana for recreational use on Tuesday night but that doesn’t mean NFL players can light up in that state without repercussions.

The NFLPA reminded agents of that very fact on Wednesday, sending out a memo in an effort to ensure players remain educated on the rules of the league.

Marijuana remains prohibited for players in the NFL, no matter where they are. The policies for a positive test remain unchanged. A first positive test results in a player’s enrollment in the NFL’s Substance Abuse Program. Future violations can result in fines and/or suspensions. Discipline handed out remains at the discretion of Commissioner Roger Goodell.

So, don’t think free agents will be looking to flock to the Broncos and Seahawks because of local laws. Nothing has changed for NFL players.
