NFP Friday Buzz: Percy Harvin on the move?

*Don’t be surprised if the 49ers replace one speedy receiver who started his career in Minnesota with another who started his career in Minnesota. After bidding adieu to Randy Moss, the 49ers could be interested in trading for Percy Harvin. The rumor mill has the 49ers as one of the potential suitors for Harvin, who is in the last year of his deal and very well could be dealt. The 49ers have the extra draft picks to make a trade happen. A potential stumbling block is finding parameters on a new contract for Harvin. But Harvin could be dangerous in Jim Harbaugh’s read option offense. He and Colin Kaepernick would be quite a dynamic combination.

*It probably won’t happen, but there is some talk that Eric Fisher could leapfrog Luke Joeckel in the draft pecking order for OTs. Why? One front office man points on Fisher has better measurable and a higher upside. But Joeckel’s body of work against top competition makes him a safer bet.

*The hiring of John Idzik was a surprise in many NFL circles. Although team owner Woody Johnson and team president Neil Glat did meet with several seasoned former general managers who originally came from the scouting side, the Jets went with another “money/cap man” like outgoing GM Mike Tannenbaum. Many in the league thought for sure he would change it up and go with someone from the scouting side.

*One of the reasons Mike Lombardi was named the GM in Cleveland was team CEO Joe Banner was always impressed with him in his time in Philly. Additionally Lombardi was on top of his reading list when he was working in the media.

*And one of the reasons Tom Gamble left the 49ers to become the Eagles’ vice president of player personnel is his respect for Chip Kelly. Little known fact: when he was in San Francisco, Gamble scouted Oregon. So he got to know Kelly and the Oregon program well.
