NFP power rankings

Peyton Manning and the Broncos retain the top spot, while Seattle moves up to No. 2. Joe Fortenbaugh

The popular notion is that home field advantage is worth three points in the National Football League. But I can personally guarantee you that after attending last Sunday night’s 49ers-Seahawks showdown at CenturyLink Field (more on this next week), what takes place in Seattle during home games is definitely worth more than the common field goal.

We didn’t downgrade the 49ers all that much after falling 29-3 in Week 2, but we will say this: If Seattle grabs the No. 1 seed in the NFC heading into the playoffs, the Seahawks are going to the Super Bowl. No team will visit CenturyLink Field during the postseason and depart with a victory.

We now resume with this week’s regularly scheduled power rankings.

The numbers in brackets indicate each team’s Power Ranking, which is based on a scale of 1-100. These numbers can be used as a baseline to determine the point spread between any two teams on the list. Keep in mind that these numbers do not account for home field advantage, situational analysis (extra rest, back-to-back road games, divisional rivalries, etc), injuries, weather or public perception. They are merely to be used as a baseline for your initial analysis.
