After watching their secondary go from surrendering 217.1 passing yards per game during the 2012 regular season to 306.0 yards per game in the playoffs, the San Francisco 49ers entered the offseason looking to make some upgrades in anticipation of next year’s Super Bowl run.

The team has already lost safety Dashon Goldson to free agency (Tampa Bay) and after flirting with cornerbacks Charles Woodson and Nnamdi Asomugha, the organization finally made a move on Saturday, agreeing to terms with free agent safety Craig Dahl.

Terms of the deal were not immediately made available.

A five-year veteran out of North Dakota State, 2012 was the first time Dahl started every contest of a 16-game schedule, recording 71 tackles and one interception with the St. Louis Rams. The 27-year-old is expected to contribute in both the secondary as well as on special teams.

So while the Niners may not be making the splashy moves that division-rival Seattle has been pulling off over the last week, San Francisco did complete a transaction today that helps address one of the team’s biggest concerns.
