Is JaMarcus Russell going to land with the Cincinnati Bengals now that he's joined the NFL ranks of the unemployed?

Doesn't look like this one is happening despite Chad Ochocinco's comment about looking forward to seeing the discarded former Oakland Raiders quarterback at minicamp.

According to the Bengals' official website, the Bengals "don't have room for a project." So, Russell to Cincinnati, put the brakes on that rumor, which is being characterized as a "longshot."

What does Bengals offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth, Russell's former LSU roommate, think about the situation?

“He’s got to be around people he trusts and going to Oakland was the worst possible thing that could have happened to him,” Whitworth said. “He always needs his people around him. He lost his uncle, the closest person he had for a lifetime next to his college teammates.

“(Russell and I) text and catch up when we see each other. I haven’t talked to him enough to know if he cares that much. Some guys get to a point in different parts of their careers, and I don’t know where he’s at, but I do know this: he’s extremely talented.”

The question remains, though: Is he ever going to be extremely or, I should say, sufficiently committed to doing what it takes to be successful on the football field?

Tough call here. Leaf was given chance after chance so he will find a gig somewhere. Russel is apathetic, Leaf was toxic.

If there is one thing he can hold on to, it is Steve Young. Looked lost in an awful situation in tampa for a couple years. Yes, he looked about Jamarcus Russell bad there (3-13 record, 11 TD's and 21 INT's, lower QB rating than Russell thus far even). Then got the change of scenery in San Fran.

I don't think that Russell has a chance to do the same, but there's that one tiny glimmer of hope.
