While attending the ESPY awards and being given a Best Breakthrough Athlete award, Tennessee Titans star running back Chris Johnson gave a progress report on his contract negotiations.
And Johnson told the Associated Press that discussions aren't going too well.
Johnson also sounds uncertain about the possibility that some incentives could be converted into a $2.5 million bonus, a short-term solution to his contract demands.
“I’m letting my agent and the team handle that," Johnson said. "Right now we’re at a standstill, and hopefully when camp starts we’ll have an outcome."
The reigning NFL rushing champion after a 2,006-yard season last year, Johnson has said he wants to be the highest paid offensive player in the game.
A new deal doesn't seem likely, but an adjusted one is possible.
Barring that development, a holdout is a distinct possibility.
