Notre Dame continues to make offensive line a priority on the recruiting trail, as the Fighting Irish received a verbal commitment from offensive tackle Alex Bars on Friday.
The 6-6, 285-pounder from Montgomery Bell Academy (Nashville, TN) will follow in his father’s footsteps, as Joe Bars played linebacker for the Irish. He also has brothers that play at Penn State and Michigan.
The Class of 2014 recruit chose ND over major schools such as Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Stanford and Texas A&M.
Head coach Brian Kelly and his staff now have pledges from four offensive linemen in this cycle, all of whom are ranked very high nationally at their positions. Bars joins Quenton Nelson, Sam Mustipher and Jimmy Byrne up front. Since Harry Hiestand joined the staff, the Irish have excelled at bringing in quality talent along the O-Line.
Notre Dame now has 10 commitments in the Class of 2014, including running back Elijah Hood and wide receiver Justin Brent.
