DeShone Kizer, one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks and one of the best players in the state of Ohio in the Class of 2014, has given a verbal commitment to Notre Dame.
The 6-5, 208-pounder from Central Catholic High School (Toledo, OH) is ranked as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com and was pursued by major programs such as Alabama, LSU and Tennessee.
Kizer, who was scheduled to visit LSU later this week, went to South Bend this past weekend for the first time after getting offered just days earlier. He is the 11th commitment for head coach Brian Kelly and his staff in this current cycle.
Last fall Kizer went 109-of-178 passing for 1,611 yards with 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He also rushed for 402 yards on 65 carries.
The pledge of Kizer is great news for ND considering the program lost Gunner Kiel to a transfer following his freshman season and incumbent starter Everett Golson to a suspension. The Elite 11 finalist led his team to a state title in his junior campaign yet still seemed to be going under the radar a bit nationally despite his strong 2012 season. He will be one of 18 finalists in the Elite 11 quarterback competition during Nike’s The Opening from June 30 to July 3.
With another star Class of 2014 quarterback giving his verbal, look for Brandon Harris and David Cornwell to be next.
