Notre Dame has added much-needed depth to its secondary as it has received a commitment from Class of 2013 cornerback prospect Cole Luke, according to BlueandGold.com, Irish Illustrated and Irish Sports Daily.

The Fighting Irish have done a wonderful job of dealing with a depleted defensive backfield all season long, particularly with inexperienced cornerbacks Bennett Jackson and KeiVarae Russell. But head coach Brian Kelly knows that better secondary depth is necessary moving forward to keep one of the nation's best defenses playing at a high level for years to come.

Luke, an Arizona native and a four-star recruit according to Rivals.com, made an oral commitment to the Fighting Irish on Thursday.

The 6-foot, 165-pounder is the 22nd pledge in the Irish's current recruiting cycle.

In 2013, Notre Dame will have just three cornerbacks who will be considered upperclassmen, but the Irish will have six cornerbacks who are either freshmen or sophomores. One of the biggest reasons for Notre Dame's revival this season has been its defense, and coordinator Bob Diaco has done a nice job of bringing along a secondary that is the unit's weak spot.
