Notre Dame got a commitment from one of the top players on its recruiting board when outside linebacker Jaylon Smith from Bishop Luers High Scholl in Fort Wayne, Indiana, gave his verbal.
Smith is rated as a 5-star prospect and is listed as the top outside linebacker in the country by both Rivals and Scout.com.
The 6-3, 220-pound Smith had offers from many of the top programs in the country. His choice came down to Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC. He made the announcement Saturday after attending the R.A.S. Camp at Trine University in Angola, Indiana. Smith’s commitment brings the total number of Notre Dame commits to 13 players so far in the 2013 recruiting cycle.
